After earlier reports that Jose Fonte could be set to link up with former boss Ronald Koeman at Everton came out, the Mirror reckons that Southampton have become favorite to sign Liverpool want away Mahamadou Sakho.
Sakho, a former PSG captain and a man that was crucial to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side last season, has been frozen out of the team after making bad decisions repeatedly around his boss. The saga has been drawn out, but now it looks to come to a close.
Liverpool are keen to see him move permanently and for around 20m, and it looks like through Fonte, the Saints may have an avenue to get the deal done. If Fonte is sold for around 12m, then they wouldn’t have much to come up with for a younger center back like Sakho.
This would be excellent business for all sides. Liverpool need him away from the team and off their wage books. Southampton need a center back that is class to play next to van Dijk. And lastly, Sakho needs a chance to redeem himself. This move is looking more and more likely every day, and hopefully it’ll be completed before January is over.
