Manchester United currently sit in a disappointing 8th place in the English Premier League, but there is still plenty of time to turn their season around. Jose Mourinho’s side will look to gather some positive momentum by getting a victory against Swansea City on Sunday.
Let’s take a look at the possible lineup.
GK- David de Gea
De Gea has started every league game for Manchester United this year, and there is no reason to think that this will not continue.
LB- Luke Shaw
With Antonio Valencia, Chris Smalling, and Eric Bailly all battling injuries, Jose Mourinho does not have a ton of options with his defense. Luke Shaw played well last week against Burnley, so the expectation should be that he will continue to start, at least until some of these injured defenders begin to return.
CB- Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo
Again due to the injuries to Manchester United’s defense, Rojo and Blind seem to be the likely duo to start at center back. Blind has played well for most of this season, and Rojo has filled in nicely over the past few games.
RB- Matteo Darmian
Darmian has started the past two games with Antonio Valencia out with an injury, so I expect Mourinho to give him another go on Sunday. Timothy Fosu-Mensah is another potential option at this position, but Darmian’s experience could give him the edge for starting minutes.
CM- Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini
Pogba apparently picked up a bit of a knock in the game on Thursday that reportedly could prevent him from playing on Sunday. However, if he is fit then he will certainly be in the starting XI. Ander Herrera is suspended for this game due to his red card last weekend, so Marouane Fellaini seems like the logical choice to fill in during his absense.
AML- Anthony Martial
Martial has been disappointing so far this season, but Manchester United has struggled to score goals recently, so it could be beneficial to make some changes. Martial is still a great young talent, and it is likely that he will snap out of his poor form sooner rather than later.
AMC- Juan Mata
Mata won the Manchester United player of the month award in October, and he will hope to carry that form into November. Mata is a gifted passer, so hopefully he will be able to open up the Swansea City defense by making some key passes.
AMR- Jesse Lingard
Lingard played well in the game against Burnley last weekend, and could be in line for another start. Marcus Rashford has not played well in the last two matches, so it might be time for him to either move back to his preferred striker position, or to take a seat on the bench for a few games.
ST- Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Zlatan has not scored a goal since September, but if not for a brilliant save by Tom Heaton he would have netted a goal last weekend. I think Zlatan will get the start on Sunday, but if his goal scoring drought continues for much longer he is within danger of getting benched.
