Arsenal are interested in signing Marseille starlet Maxime Lopez, according to the Sun.
The report claims the Arsenal scouts watched the 18-year-old in action for his team against rivals Bordeaux in the two clubs’ 0-0 draw at the Stade Velodrome last Sunday.
However, Premier League rivals Liverpool are also believed to be following Lopez’s progress in France.
The newspaper goes on to suggest Arsene Wenger was keen on the teenager in 2014, but Lopez opted to sign a professional deal with his hometown club.
It seems like Lopez, who’s been dubbed as the next Samir Nasri, is back on Arsene Wenger’s shortlist and could soon find himself at the Emirates Stadium.
The talented teenager, who can play on either wing or as an advanced playmaker in the middle of the pitch, will be free to speak to other clubs in January as his current contract with Marseille is due to expire next summer.
Lopez is widely regarded as one of the best youngsters in French football right now, so it’d be a major blow for Marseille to lose him on a free transfer.
Arsene Wenger is known for signing young players with great potential, so Lopez could be tempted by the prospect of playing under his fellow countryman at the Emirates Stadium.
