As quoted by the Daily Mail, Fenerbahce manager Dick Advocaat has stated his belief that Memphis Depay will have to leave Old Trafford in order to be able to fulfill his true potential.
Depay arrived at Manchester United from PSV Eindhoven during the start of last season for a sizeable fee of around £25 million and given his wonderful exploits in the Netherlands, many expected the winger to shine in the Premier League as well.
However, Depay’s performances during his debut season in England were anything but impressive and the 22-year-old would surely have been hoping for a turnaround in fortunes during the current campaign.
Unfortunately Depay has not been handed enough opportunities on the pitch by manager Jose Mourinho to be able to prove his worth and it is clear to see that the Dutch international is well down the pecking order at Old Trafford.
Many now fear that Depay will be wasting his immense potential if he does not receive regular playing time and now Fenerbahce boss Dick Advocaat has gone on to state his belief that the young winger needs to leave Old Trafford in order to kick start his stalling career.
Advocaat said, “The potential is there for him to be a good player. You cannot lose that, he has the quality to be a top player.
“But the problem is for him is that there are so many quality players in that squad, so for himself it is important to start playing regularly at the age he is at. Otherwise, the way I think is that maybe he has to find another solution because he is too good to sit on the bench.
“I still believe in him. He has the right mentality, the right character to play for United, but there are so many options there. Regular playing time will help his progression.”
