According to reports from Portuguese outlet Record, Manchester United have sent scouts to cast an eye on Sporting Lisbon attacker Gelson Martins.
Manchester United splashed a lot of cash to sign the likes of Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Eric Bailly and Zlatan Ibrahimovic this summer and the new signings already have had positive impacts at Old Trafford so far.
United are doing fairly well in the Premier League at the moment largely due to the presence of the new arrivals and many believe that if Jose Mourinho’s side are able to maintain consistency, they will be challenging for the title this season.
While United’s squad may look extremely strong at the moment, that has not stopped Mourinho from considering possible avenues to further strengthen his ranks and now according to reports emerging out of Portugal, the Red Devils’ boss is currently considering a swoop for Sporting Lisbon attacker Gelson Martins.
The Record state that Mourinho has sent scouts to monitor Martins on a regular basis this season and now United could make a move for the 21-year-old during the January transfer window.
Martins would surely be tempted by a move to a big club such as United but a potential stumbling block to the prospective transfer is the fact that Sporting have placed a £52 million release clause on his contract and the Premier League giants will surely have to splash the cash in order to sign the attacker.
