Arsenal face huge obstacle in their hopes of signing defender

West Bromwich Albion are reportedly unwilling to sell their starting defender Jonny Evans to Arsenal for anything less than £25 million, according to a report from the Telegraph.

Arsenal have already reportedly missed out on another center back target in Valencia’s Shkodran Mustafi, and they had seen Evans as a backup plan.

Arsene Wenger has been reluctant to spend money for most of the summer transfer window, but with transfer fees rising he will be forced to spend big money if he wishes to get anything done.

Evans was really good for West Brom last season, as he averaged 2.4 tackles per game and 3.0 interceptions per game, while posting a very good WhoScored.com rating of 7.20.

Considering the problems Arsenal have with their back four, it might be well worth it to spend the money on Jonny Evans in order to improve the team’s defense.

Wenger will likely not be happy paying £25 million for Evans, but he may be forced to do so if Arsenal cannot find any other alternatives. The Gunners may end up making this transfer move due to their desperation for defensive help.
