Chelsea are looking to sign the Portuguese Euro 2016 winner Joao Mario, claims Portuguese news outlet O Jogo. The midfielder could be on a move to Chelsea from Sporting CP. Chelsea are willing to offer £40 million for the 21-year-old Joao Mario.

Joao Mario has been one of the most important players for Portugal in their EURO 2016 campaign. The youngster has worked tirelessly in the midfield, while enjoying a very free role on the pitch.

He has been very effective for Sporting CP, as he ended the season with 7 goals and 12 assists in 45 appearances, which led Sporting CP to finish 2 points behind league winner Benfica. Joao Mario is a technically gifted player, he does not possess the pace to outrun defences, but his sublime movement, passing and composure in under-pressure situations make him a mature reader of the game.

Joao Mario would be a fantastic signing for Antonio Conte and Chelsea as they are in search of players with extensive work-rate. He has proved in the EURO 2016 why he is a player made for big clubs, with his mature performances and stamina level. Conte will cherish a player of this sort in his team. Only thing which stands in between a possible deal is his physicality, as the English Premier League is known for its physicality, it might be difficult for him to thrive unless he makes absolute use of his movement.
