Report: Chelsea could enter agreement for striker for £40 million

Costa

After a comparatively mediocre season at Stamford Bridge last year, star striker Diego Costa is hoping for a £40m return ticket to former club Atletico Madrid, according to British news source the Daily Star.

While his poor performance under Argentine manager Jose Mourinho gave way to better results under eventual replacement Guus Hiddink, managing 16 goals in a total of 41 appearances, the 27 year-old has now made it clear to Chelsea management that he wants to leave.

Costa moved to Chelsea from Atletico in 2014 for a fee of £32m, and it’s possible that the Blues stand to make a serious financial gain on any forthcoming sale.

Rumours suggest that his former club are willing to offer at least £40m for his services, and this figure could rise even higher with add-ons and incentives.

What’s almost certain however is that Chelsea manager Antonio Conte will have to start looking for some serious talent up front should Costa book his return ticket.
