Manchester United reportedly interested in 28-year-old attacking midfielder

Marek Hamsik

Manchester United are keen on Slovakian international midfielder Marek Hamsik, according to the Daily Express.

The report suggests United want to strengthen their midfield and have identified Hamsik as a potential target following his impressive performances at Euro 2016.

However, United would face competition for his signature as Liverpool and Chelsea are also believed to be interested.

The 28-year-old has been one of Napoli’s best and most consistent players since arriving in Naples 9 years ago.

Hamsik scored 8 goals and provided 11 assistslast season as he helped Napoli to a second-place finish in Serie A.

He’s been heavily linked with a move away from the Italian side in the past few transfer windows and it appears as though he could be about to finally leave Naples this summer.

Hamsik has given a vague answer when asked about his future, which is bound to fuel the speculation about a potential move away from Napoli.

“Will I renew with Napoli or leave? We’ll see,” Hamsik told Spanish newspaper Sport.

“Now I want to rest, first and foremost. It’s been a difficult year with a lot of games, I want to enjoy time with my family.”

Hamsik would be a great signing for United as he’s a powerful, creative midfielder with a fierce shot.

He’d suit Mourinho’s system, but it’s hard to imagine Napoli letting him leave as he’s one of their most important players and their president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, is difficult to negotiate with.
