Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Basel attacker Breel Embolo, according to Swiss news outlet 20 Minuten.
The report suggests Embolo was close to putting pen to paper with German side RB Leipzig, but United’s sudden interest has now changed everything and the player’s representatives are negotiating both with Basel and with the English giants to push the deal through.
19-year-old Embolo is the brightest Swiss talent right now and also one of the best talents in European football. The talented attacker scored 13 goals and made 9 assists in 40 appearances for Basel last season.
Embolo is a physically imposing player that can play both up front and on the right wing. He’s pretty similar to Anthony Martial as he’s not the typical winger, but more of an inside forward.
If United’s interest is genuine and Mourinho decides to bring Embolo to Old Trafford, the Swiss youngster would become a part of an already exciting group of extremely talented young players.
Even though he can also play as a striker, United desperately need a new right-sided attacker, so he’d probably be used on the right wing.
Given the player’s reported availability in this transfer window, it appears as though United could be about to make their second signing of the summer.
