Chelsea lost their second league game in a row and first at Stamford Bridge under Guus Hiddink. It was a comprehensive dismantling defeat for The Blues, which even saw their goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois being sent off.
“It was of course a bad defeat. We were playing a very strong team,” said Hiddink, Manchester City deserved to go in top 4, he further added.
Chelsea enjoyed majority (52%) of the possession and an equal number of shots (11) managed as Manchester City. Chelsea even got 11 chances to score from the corners which they spared. Just like the last weekend, their failure to convert the chances-created into goals cost them an embarrassing defeat.
City struck brilliantly from counter-attacks and caught Chelsea off-guard. Chelsea’s misery continued as Courtois was sent off and Sergio Aguero converted yet again from the penalty spot.
“We had some half chances…”, accepts Hiddink, who conceded only the second defeat in the league since he took over. Chelsea’s tantalizing efforts to earn a Europa League spot has seen a dead end. Flamboyant Manchester City side proved to be too much for the Blues which saw them chasing the game for the whole 90 minutes.
