Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has informed chairman Daniel Levy of a potential transfer target that hails from the manager’s home country.
Striker Jonathan Calleri, 22, could bolster Spurs roster and is exactly the young talent Pochettino is looking to add to his squad. Currently Calleri is on loan to Brazilian side Sao Paulo from his club in Uruguay Deportivo Maldonado. He scored on his debut for Sao Paulo and his loan ends this summer.
Calleri wouldn’t be too expensive and his price is cheaper than Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette, who Calleri has been compared to. Both are currently be targeted by the North London side.
Calleri would be a smart transfer for Pochettino’s side as right now Harry Kane is the only registered striker on Spurs roster — Clinton N’Jie, the other striker, is currently injured. He also has Italian roots so there would he wouldn’t have to obtain a work permit, as he obtained an Italian passport recently.
Tottenham aren’t the only club monitoring the Argentine however. Italian giants Inter Milan are also interested in Calleri’s services and have reportedly already talked to him about a switch to the San Siro this summer.
Tottenham are also reportedly in for a bunch of strikers, like Saido Berahino and Sandro Ramirez, however Calleri to Tottenham seems likely. Young players like Dele Alli and Kane have flourished under Pochettino this season, and fellow Argentine Erik Lamela has as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if this rumour becomes a serious possibility.
