Tottenham centre-back Jan Vertonghen has signed a new long term deal with the club.
The defender is making roughly around £39,000 a week. The contract extension gives the Belgian international a wage increase to £50,000 up to the summer of 2019.
Vertonghen signed for Tottenham back in 2012 from Dutch side Ajax and has been a regular face in the starting XI for the Lilywhites. Right now he’s recuperating from a knee injury he sustained against Crystal Palace. The centre-back was initially ruled out for two months and he’s likely to make his return after the international break.
Tottenham’s first games back from that break will be against Liverpool and Manchester United. Two big matches they need to secure points in if they want to close in on league leaders Leicester City.
Last season Vertoghen expressed that he might want to move away from White Hart Lane as he desired Champions League football. Hugo Lloris looked set to depart from White Hart Lane as well. However manager Mauricio Pochettino has turned Spurs in a title contender and Tottenham look to surely qualify for Champions League next season.
Vertonghen joins the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli to sign a contract extension with Tottenham. Christian Eriksen looks close to signing a long term deal.
