Strongest Possible Tottenham Hotspur Lineup vs Colchester: 4-2-3-1 with Onomah and Carroll to start

Tottenham Hotspur hope to continue on in the FA Cup as they travel to Colchester Community Stadium on Saturday to play Colchester United. After a quick team trip to Barcelona, Spurs should be prepared for this match.

Colchester may be at the bottom of League 1 right now but Tottenham still should not underestimate them. They’re still professional footballers, and getting knocked out by them would be embarrassing.

With that being said here’s the lineup I think manager Mauricio Pochettino will send out agains the the U’s.

Goalie: Michel Vorm

Vorm will be in net as he has been for most FA Cup matches and was excellent in his last match against Leicester City.

Right Back: Kyle Walker

Walker is fully rested after not playing against Crystal Palace last week. Norwich is in a couple days but Kieran Trippier should have no problem dealing with them. Walker could bring valuable experience if Poch goes with a younger back four. I say let him lose and let him run all over Colchester.

Centre-backs: Kevin Wimmer and Toby Alderweireld

I think it’s important to get Alderweireld and Wimmer on a good connection immediately since it looks like Jan Vertoghen could be out for awhile with an injury to his mcl. But it’s also important to rest Alderweireld who has been relied on heavily this season, so I don’t think he’ll play the whole match.

I would love to see youngster Cameron Carter Vickers get the start in place of Alderweireld, but I don’t think it’s going to happen. If Alderweireld doesn’t start expect Eric Dier to drop back and play next to Wimmer.

Left Back: Danny Rose

Poch has been alternating between his fullback pairings so Rose should get the start. He may even captain the team again.

Centre Defensive Midfielders – Nabil Bentaleb and Tom Carroll

Bentaleb is coming back off of injury and is still looking to recover his form so a good outing on Saturday could be just what the Algerian International needs.

With Moussa Dembélé returning to the first team, Carroll has now found himself back on the bench during Premier League matches. However he will get the start this week. Carroll needs to be more physical, but he has great vision and is a brilliant passer of the ball. He should have a good outing.

Attacking midfielders:

Attacking right: Erik Lamela

Lamela’s situation is similar to Kyle Walker’s. He hasn’t played since Leicester, and he’s fresh. Poch should let him run all over Colchester. Him and Walker on the right flank could prove to be too much for the U’s to handle.

Centre-Attacking Midfielder – Josh Onomah

The 18-year-old is a rising star and impressed in his last full outing against Leicester City a couple weeks ago. He controls the midfield extremely well for how young he is but he’s most dangerous when he has the ball at his feet and is running at defenders.

Attacking left – Nacer Chadli

Chadli has performed well in his last two matches and is currently riding a two game goal streak. The Belgian international will certainly look to continue his good run of form on Saturday.

Striker – Son Heung-Min

Son was brilliant in his last FA cup outing and looks to finally be settling into the play style of football in England. Son should have no problem dealing with Colchester’s backline.

Spurs should handle Colchester without a problem and move on to the next round of the FA cup.

What’s your strongest lineup for Spurs and what do you think the result will be?
