Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move that would bring Barcelona youngster Sandro to White Hart Lane in January, per Spanish publication Sport.
Spurs’ manager Mauricio Pochettino has made signing Sandro a top priority once the transfer window opens in January. The Catalan club have made it clear that they are willing to part ways with the Spaniard, who has made 10 La Liga appearances this season. Sandro rose through Barcelona’s youth academy and has been on Barcelona’s first team since 2014.
It’s been difficult for Sandro to crack the starting 11 for Luis Enquire’s side as it’s been made clear that Neymar, Lionel Messi, and Luis Suarez are his first choice attackers.
On the other hand, Spurs are desperate to bring in another striker after the news that Clinton N’Jié would be out for an extended period of time after having surgery on his knee. Right now Harry Kane is the only recognised striker in Spurs’ squad.
According to the article in Sport, Sandro has a €12 million release clause in his contract and Tottenham are prepared to match the player’s asking price. Tottenham have been in discussion with Sandro and are prepared to offer him a four-and-a-half year contract. They now just await the Spaniard to agree to their terms.
Some complications could emerge if Barcelona are eager to insert a buy-back clause for the player, something that the Spanish club has been known to do with their academy graduates that move away from Camp Nou.
Spurs aren’t to fond of the idea and are prepared to offer more money to ensure that they can keep the player, per the report.
Poch is aware that signing another striker in January is necessary as Spurs look to strengthen their place in the top four in order to qualify for Champion’s League football next season. Spurs are also looking at making another attempt to sign West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino after their bids in the Summer were turn down by Tony Pulis’ side.
