The Club America vs Morelia match will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the Estadio Azteca. America is on a three game unbeaten streak, and will be looking to extend that at home in front of their home crowd. Morelia is on a bit of a slump, having earned just one point in the last three matches. Will Club America get an important win that will solidify them as one of the top Liga MX teams?
Club America has one of the best offenses in the Liga MX, having scored 15 goals in nine matches (they are only behind Leon, who has been simply incredible). America’s defense is also quite good, having allowed just eight goals in nine matches, averaging just less than one per match. Overall, Club America has been looking quite solid in the last three games, playing more as a unit rather than a group of individuals. Last week, America obtained a 1-1 draw against cross-city rivals Cruz Azul, an always difficult match.
Morelia has only earned one point from its last three games: loss against Pumas, loss against Morelia, and a draw against Tigres last week. It now finds itself with 13 points earned in nine matches (just one behind America). A loss against America puts Morelia at serious risk of losing its playoff standings. Overall, Morelia has a good offense, having scored 14 goals in nine matches. However, their defense is a little weak, it has allowed 10 goals in nine matches, a little over one per game. Another interesting fact, is that Morelia has only won one away game, it has tied two, and lost one. Morelia will definitely have a difficult time at the Estadio Azteca.
Last week against Tigres, Morelia was desperate to get any points that would end their two-game losing streak, and it showed in their gameplay. Essentially, both teams slowed down the gameplay and settled for the point.
Club America is on a fairly good run, and it will be looking to continue it, however, it is till undecided if Cristian Benitez will play against Morelia. Benitez was injured during training this week, and Miguel Herrera hasn’t officially stated if he will be out or not. Benitez has scored six out of 15 goals for Club America, his loss would surely be felt in the offense.
Prediction: The America vs Morelia match will be a tough affair with two good teams that will be looking to move up the standings. Club America will likely come up with an offensive scheme in the hopes of getting all three points. Morelia will be looking to play more defensively and would surely be happy with a draw. If Benitez can play the entire match, I predict a 2-1 win for Club America. If Benitez does not play, I predict a 1-1 draw.
Television: The America vs Morelia match will be televised this Saturday at 6:00 PM EDT on Univision.
