Manchester United defender Reece James has joined Championship side Rotherham United on a loan deal

Considered one of the most promising youngsters to emerge from the United academy in recent times, James managed to make an impression during the summer pre-season tour for the senior side, as he managed to find the back of the net on two occasions against LA Galaxy.

James has since featured three times on United’s matchday squad and even made his debut for the first team during United’s 4-0 loss at the hands of Milton Keynes Dons in the Capital One Cup.

Therefore, it is pretty evident to see that James is held in high regard by manager Louis van Gaal and the young man could become a big player for United in the future.

As for now, James’ path in the first team is blocked by established names such as Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw and in order to continue his development, the young man has now joined Championship side Rotherham United on loan till January.

Confirming the deal, Rotherham boss Steve Evans expressed his delight at having secured the services of James and labeled the 21-year old as an outstanding talent.

Evans said, “Young Reece is a player who I have watched develop at Manchester United over the last two or three years. He is an outstanding young left-back or indeed can be utilised further forward as and when needed.

“His ability was not only witnessed by Sir Alex Ferguson and David Moyes but even more so by current United manager Louis Van Gaal, who gave young Reece an opportunity to play in the first-team back in pre-season and indeed the youngster has been close to being involved at Old Trafford in recent weeks.”

Rotherham are currently in 22nd position in the Championship and the experience of playing in the lower echelons of such a tough league will most certainly serve the young man well.
