The 2nd Leg of the Spanish Super Cup between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid will be played at the Vicente Calderón in Madrid, Spain on Friday, August 22, 2014 at 1.30pm Pacific.

The first title of the Spanish season will crown a winner on Friday. City rivals from Madrid will fight until the last minute for it. There may be a few changes in each team’s lineup, yet any player will not harm the competitiveness. The intensity certainly won’t be reduced, as the clubs always have that extra boost against a historic rival. Atleti are ahead because of the away goal rule, but Real will go out to score as soon as possible. The match is a must and will undoubtedly be entertaining.

Atlético Madrid

El Cholo Simeone was very satisfied with his men after the first leg. With a 0-0 draw at the Calderón, they will conquer the trophy. It’s safe to say that Atlético will try to protect that result, while waiting for a Madrid error. If they hope to take advantage of that, Griezmann should definitely start the match. Motivation won’t be a problem, since Simeone has no problem in keeping the team focused.

Real Madrid will work hard to avoid any mistakes, which will make Atlético’s job more difficult. We saw Mandžukić helping out way too much in the back, leaving the team without an attacking reference. The Griezmann factor can really help him out, as the Frenchman is fast. Real’s defenders are a bit slow at times, making this duo an ideal one to win the trophy.

On the other hand, there are some things that Simeone should ask from his team. A decent amount of people were angry at Atlético for playing too rough. It’s almost impossible to prevent the game from heating up, since this rivalry has never been friendly. However, Siqueira could’ve easily been sent off, potentially being a catastrophic thing for Los Colchoneros. Atleti should avoid doing anything to destroy their advantage, because Real can kill you if you give them an inch.

Real Madrid

The team knows that they need to score or they will lose the title. One defensive mistake cost them a very important away goal. Ancelotti should focus on set piece defending during training sessions. Aerial game isn’t Casillas’ strong side, which requires defenders to work harder. Real will want to score a goal right away, but losing concentration in the back could be decisive.

Cristiano Ronaldo suffered an injury at the Bernabéu. It hasn’t been confirmed yet if he will play. Nevertheless, he trained normally today with his teammates. Should he miss the match, Ángel Di María or James will be his replacement. El Fideo provided that electricity when he came out, and James scored a goal. On top of that, they both have great vision that can help out in breaking Atleti.

Carlo stated in a press conference that all players are available. He hinted that there could be some changes from the first leg. If he wants the team to have that intensity and speed, he should put out its most threatening players. The formation will probably remain in the classic 4-3-3 and it would look like this: Casillas; Carvajal, Varane, Ramos, Coentrão; Modrić, Kroos, James; Bale, Benzema, Di María.

Atlético Madrid vs Real Madrid Prediction

This will be an extremely tough match. Los Blancos will do anything to score and Atlético anything to keep a clean sheet. There are no news yet on the lineups, still whoever comes out will give their best. Real will dominate the ball, but they need to have that player to break the defense. Simeone will ask even more toughness from the back line. There will be highs and lows during the game, though it doesn’t seem there will be many goals. This could even end up in extra time or in penalty shootouts.
