As per Italian newspaper Corrire dello Sport, Tottenham will move to land Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi by summer should Real Madrid successfully lure Harry Kane to Spain.
The England international has been in sensational form in front of goal in recent seasons, attracting the La Liga giants, who are bound to splash the cash heavily by summer as a result of the need for squad reinforcement.
A mega bid is set to be tabled for Kane, and Icardi tops Spurs’ wishlist should their most prized possession eventually leave.
The 24-year-old Argentina international has a £98.7million buyout clause in his contract, and has all it takes to fill the shoes of his English counterpart.
Icardi has bagged 89 Serie A goals in 147 games, emerging as the league’s top scorer in 2014–15 with 22 goals and weighing in 18 strikes in 22 games thus far this term.
While he’s not as prolific as Kane, he has the potential to grow into one of the top finishers in the world.
Icardi is also more technical on the ball, and his physicality and pace can see him hit the ground running in the topflight.
