Paul Merson has admitted that he is concerned about Tottenham’s lack of depth ahead of their Champions League last-16 clash against last season’s losing finalists, Juventus.
Spurs are currently in fifth position in the Premier League standings and are 18 points adrift of runaway leaders Manchester City.
They are already out of the title race this season and could face a battle just to finish in the top four.
Spurs fans, however, can take encouragement from the club’s recent good run of form, as Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane especially have been firing on all cylinders.
Merson believes that Spurs can beat anyone on their day, as they proved by winning their Champions League group which included Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid.
Merson, however, is concerned about the clubs lack of depth.
He said: “Tottenham could go far, but they’re two injuries away from being pretty average, let’s be honest. If Harry Kane got injured they’re hugely impacted, but not just them. We saw them go to Man City without their three strongest men; Alderweireld, Wanyama and Sanchez. And they got absolutely rinsed by Man City. But if they have their full team out, I think they give anyone in Europe a game. But it’ll all come down to injuries, and I’m not sure they have a big enough squad.”
