Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has claimed that the North London club were close to signing Eden Hazard.
Redknapp had tried to sign Hazard while he was managing Spurs, however the Belgian eventually ended up joining Chelsea from Lille in 2012 and has since become one of the best players in world football.
He said: “We could have had (Eden) Hazard. I went to France to watch him three or four times with Lille.
“I talked to him for three or four hours but we could not do the deal and he ended up going to Chelsea. He would have been a great player for Tottenham at that time.
“But there are always players you thought would have made the difference — so you have to be philosophical. Some you win, some you lose.”
At the time, Spurs were not the force that they are now and Chelsea were title contenders so it is not hard to see why Hazard opted for a move to the Blues rather than Spurs.
However had Spurs tried to recruit the player at an earlier point in time, they might have succeeded.
