Newcastle United reportedly interested in signing established midfielder

Newcastle United are interested in the signature of Benfica midfielder Andreas Samaris this January transfer window, according to reports.

Newcastle are currently undermanned in the midfield position with the likes of Jonjo Shelvey, Mikel Merino, Isaac Hayden and Mo Diame the only senior midfielders present in the squad.

As a result, the Magpies have turned their attention in the signature of Benfica’s Greek international Andreas Samaris in their attempt to provide greater cover in the midfield positions.

The lack of quality options in the midfield as convinced manager Rafa Benitez to look in the said position for reinforcements and as a result, the Spanish tactician has identified Samaris as the ideal target – if reports are to be believed.

Samaris has the tenacity and technical attribute to make a solid defensive midfielder and having the Greek will definitely make the Magpies much stronger in their bid to avoid relegation this season.
