Aston Villa captain John Terry has given Virgil van Dijk a warning about moving to Chelsea rather than Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool or Manchester United.
The Southampton defender was strongly linked with a move to Liverpool during the summer transfer window, though in the end a move did not take place as the Saints outright refused to sell.
With the January transfer window coming up, the Dutch international is yet again being linked with a transfer away from the Saints.
A number of teams who are looking to bolster their defence with a quality signing are expected to make bids for Van Dijk and this could leave him with a variety of choices.
Terry however believes that Van Dijk could have difficulty getting into the Chelsea starting line up as compared to if he were to join other clubs but insisted that he makes the overall squad better.
“If you look at Liverpool he certainly goes into the starting line-up,” Terry said. “Arsenal the same. Chelsea he makes their squad better. Man City he goes into that starting XI. Same at Manchester United. ‘I think he goes into all them squads and makes them better.”
