Defender indicates at a major deal for Aston Villa

Aston Villa defender Neil Taylor has indicated that his club have already reached an agreement with Manchester United to sign goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on a permanent basis.

“I’d like to see him here permanently — any player playing as well as that you would like to keep,” Taylor said.

“But clubs like United don’t extend your deal for no good reason. Sam can be as good as he wants — he’s still a young goalkeeper. He should kick on from here and the sky’s the limit for Sam.

“But the most important thing is he’s playing football at a decent level — he’s not sitting on the bench in the Premier League.”

The 24-year-old Johnstone was sent on loan to Villa in January after failing to make an appearance for the United senior side.

He has managed to impress during his time at Villa so far and has firmly established himself as the clubs first choice shot-stopper so it comes as no surprise that they want to sign him on a permanent basis.

Johnstone is unlikely to get game time at United with David de Gea being one of the World’s best keepers so a move to Villa permanently will suit both clubs.
