Tottenham boss Pochettino backs struggling man to succeed

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has backed veteran striker Fernando Llorente to succeed at the club despite having a slow start to life in North London.

“Of course the striker always needs to score,” Pochettino said.”He has some possibility to score in the last few games but he didn’t. We trust in him. It’s so difficult to arrive in a club without pre-season and perform the way that you want. But I am happy with his contribution.

“Of course, he is disappointed because when he plays he didn’t score but I am sure he is going to help the team.”

After an impressive season last term with Swansea, whom he helped avoid relegation, Llorente moved to Spurs during the summer transfer window in order to provide competition and support to Harry Kane.

He has however so far failed to impress and has not found the back of the net on a regular basis in 16 appearances for the club.

Llorente is likely to get more game time as there will be times when Kane will need to be rested, however if he does not score soon, he will be shipped out of the club during the near future.
