Former Chelsea and Tottenham boss Andre Villas–Boas quit his job as manager of Shanghai SIPG and will now turn his focus onto participating in the Dakar Rally in January.

The Portuguese boss will follow a family tradition as his uncle also competed in the event in 1982. He will also not be the first celebrity to take part in the event.

French music star Johnny Hallyway previously took part in the race in 2002 and Prince Albert of Monaco also competed twice while his sister Princess Caroline competed once.

He said about the decision, “I spoke with my friend Alex Doringer, the manager of the KTM team, who told me that I would still need a full year’s preparation to get there and that it was better to consider doing it with a car. So I got in touch with Team Overdrive and here I am!”

This will be an interesting challenge for the man who now intends to take a break from the game.
