Liverpool reportedly handed boost in hopes of keeping hold of Coutinho

According to reports, Barcelona are eyeing a possible £17 million swoop for Mesut Ozil as an alternative to Philippe Coutinho.

Ozil’s current contract at Arsenal is set to expire at the end of the season and the fact that he has yet to sign a new deal at the Emirates suggests that he could be available for cheap during the January transfer window.

Coutinho was a priority target of Barcelona during the summer and they made three bids for him, all of which were rejected by Liverpool.

Ernesto Valverde’s team reportedly views the Brazilian as a long-term replacement for the 33-year-old Andreas Iniesta. They may however face competition from big-spending French giants PSG in the race to sign Coutinho.

Thiago Silva and Neymar of PSG are reportedly attempting their fellow countryman to sign for the French giants according to recent reports.

Ozil will be available at a much cheaper rate than Coutinho and he will make a good alternative.
