Tottenham star impresses with youth side to give ray of hope following disappointing loss

While Tottenham’s title ambitions were dealt a huge blow at the Emirates Stadium in following a 2-nil loss to Arsenal, the return of Erik Lamela to action proved to be the only good thing about the day.

The Argentina international played an hour against Chelsea in a 3-2 loss in the Premier League 2.

It’s the first time the 25-year-old is playing a match since the League Cup loss to Liverpool last October.

Lamela featured as a number 10 – his favorite playing position while at River Plate and AS Roma – helping Wayne Burnett’s U23s with the attack oftentimes as he saw a lot of the ball.

Although it could take time before the attacking midfielder re-establishes himself as an integral part of manager Mauricio Pochettino’s plans, that he’s able to kick-start the journey to full match fitness is great news.

Lamela remains a great and talented player, one that has been sorely missed by the team.

Hence, his return will definitely provide the team with much-needed depth going forward this term.

With Russia 2018 in view, Lamela has enough inspiration to get back to his best form in order to convince Argentina boss Jorge Sampaoli he deserves a place in the national team.
