Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has said that Harry Winks could gatecrash Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the 2018 World Cup.
The 21 year old was one of Spurs most impressive players during their creditable 1-1 draw against Real Madrid in a Champions League clash at the Santiago Bernabeu this week.
He also was impressive during his debut for the England national team against Lithuania in a World Cup qualifier this month. Winks then admitted that he hopes to make the England squad for next summer’s World Cup.
Whilst discussing the recent performances of the player, Pochettino highlighted that he has faith that the youngster can achieve his goal, saying: “It’s not my decision but if keeps his performance of the past few weeks, why not? (make the World Cup).
“I’m so pleased because he has the quality to play the way he did against Real Madrid. He showed great character, personality and quality. He’s still so young and hasn’t played many games still. But he has not surprised me.
“You work three seasons together and you can start to see his evolution. It’s about trying to find the right time to provide him the place and the opportunity to play.
“Recently he has played for the national team and played at the Bernabeu, but we must now look after his body and mind too.”
