Former Tottenham star Jermain Defoe has said that Harry Kane should have been promoted to the North London club’s first team a lot sooner than he eventually managed.
The England international made his club debut in August 2011 against Scottish outfit Hearts during a Europe League qualifying encounter.
He was on the fringes of the side until around the 2013/14 season and since then the 24 year old has gone on to establish himself as one of the world’s best strikers having scored 110 goals from 175 appearances.
Defoe has revealed that he is a fan of Kane, who is being touted as a possible candidate to end the domination that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have had over the Ballond’or award.
Defoe has now stated Kane should have been promoted earlier by saying, “I remember Harry always scoring goals in the under-21’s.
“Brad Friedel said that if you ever leave this football club, Harry will be the one that takes over, and I agreed. I felt he should have been involved sooner than he was, to be honest.”
