Former England boss Roy Hodgson has expressed concerns that the goal scoring form of Harry Kane could suffer if he is to be appointed England captain on a permanent basis.
The Three Lions have been without a permanent captain since Wayne Rooney retired from international football and since being appointed manager, Gareth Southgate has opted to rotate the duties between Jordan Henderson, Gary Cahill and Kane.
Kane is one of the most respected English players in World football after finishing as top scorer in the Premier League during the past two seasons and has been on top form recently having already scored 13 goals this season.
Hodgson has said that Southgate needs to be weary of giving the job to Kane as it could impact on his goal scoring form. He said, “I’d like to see him scoring goals and doing what he does best as a centre forward.
“It could be that the captaincy could weigh on him and in some way impact upon that. That will be for Gareth (Southgate) to decide, he’ll have to look at those things.”
