Former Spurs boss recommends missing piece of the puzzle for Tottenham’s title rivals

A quality left-back has been an issue for Manchester United since last season, with manager Jose Mourinho still yet to decide who his first-choice in the position is.

Luke Shaw has yet to fully convince the Portuguese, and hasn’t seen action this term, while the trio of Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian and Ashley Young has all been played in the position this term.

However, former Tottenham manager and Sky Sports’ pundit Tim Sherwood, has suggested Spurs man Danny Rose could be the perfect solution to the Red Devils’ left-back conundrum.

Sherwood claimed on The Debate that United shouldn’t hesitate paying a premium to land the former Leeds man.

Rose, 27, raised eyebrows days to the start of the new season after suggesting he wouldn’t mind being sold for the right price as long as he is being paid what he’s worth in wages.

The England international, who has been out of action since February, but still ended up on the PFA Team of the Year last season, did express his disappointment with the club’s rigid pay system and lack of big-money and big-name signings in an interview last month.

Spurs have had to do with Ben Davies in the left-back position in Rose’s long-term absence, and Sherwood thinks the club shouldn’t hesitate to cash in on their man.

He told Sky Sports: “I think Danny Rose is the best left back in the country.

“Someone like Manchester United are crying out for that sort of player. They would pay premium money for that, and I would recommend that they do.”

With Rose keen on an exit, it remains to be seen if Tottenham would grant his wishes next summer.
