Fernando Llorente has revealed that he ended up joining Tottenham after a last minute call on deadline day from Mauricio Pochettino.
The veteran Spanish striker went on to make his first appearance for the North London club on Wednesday during their 3-1 Champions League victory over Borussia Dortmund.
He was reportedly also a target of Chelsea though in the end, he opted to join the Lillywhites. The 32-year-old Llorente will be expected to provide cover and competition to Harry Kane this season.
Llorente said abou this transfer to Tottenham, “The truth is that Chelsea have been after me for a long time but at the end you know how this works. At the very last minute Pochettino called me and convinced me [to join Tottenham].
“The Tottenham project is impressive. They have done very well in the last few years and I think I fit very well with this project. I think I can help them a lot.
“I’m very happy because at the end everything came out perfect. Tottenham are an amazing club with a wonderful project and I think I fit in very well. I want to put my contribution on it and hopefully I can score many goals to help the club to achieve their targets.”
He will likely be given a lot of opportunities to play following Vincent Janssen’s departure on a season long loan deal to Turkish outfit Fenerbache.
