Burnley manager Sean Dyche has revealed that he once tried to sign Tottenham star Harry Kane before the striker established himself as a world class talent.
After finishing as the top scorer in the English Premiership for the past two consecutive seasons, Kane has established himself as a key part of the England national team as well as Tottenham. He is also arguably one of the best strikers in World football.
Dyche has now revealed that he was one of a number of managers who had explored the possibility of signing Kane.
The Burnley boss said, “We made enquiries, but so did a hundred others. I knew him from Millwall, and having played there myself I know that you can learn a lot from that as it’s a tough experience.
“He had a couple of quieter loan spells when things didn’t go to plan, but he seemed to make sense of it all and learn from it.
“Myself and many others rang about him as a young player to see if he was available, and at that time he was on the edge of breaking through anyway, which he did. Tottenham made a good decision in keeping him in there.”
Tottenham fans will certainly be relieved that the club did not give into the temptation and sell Kane at the time.
