According to Spanish news-site SuperDeporte, Valencia centre-half Ezequiel Garay was watched by scouts from Tottenham, Manchester United, Juventus and Benfica last Friday during the club’s La Liga opener against Las Palmas.

The 30-year-old Argentina international boasts of a lot of experience at both club and country level, and it’s least surprising that he’s being courted by Spurs and others.

Despite just adding Davinson Sanchez to their defensive ranks for a club-record £42million, the North London club still want further reinforcements at the back, as they attempt to go one better in all competitions this term.

A lack of depth has hurt their campaigns in recent seasons, and Garay would be a perfect and quality defensive option and cover.

The race for his signature is tight due to what he brings to the table.

The former Real Madrid man is comfortable with the ball at his feet, often bringing it from the back to link up with his midfield and attack.

Garay is also occasionally a source of goals via his direct free-kicks, and is very well-rounded as they come.

Should they successfully add the Argentine to their ranks, manager Mauricio Pochettino can be rest assured of having a defensive stalwart to beckon upon every now and then.
