Liverpool reportedly handed boost in hopes of signing van Dijk following latest development

According to reports, Southampton have bought Wesley Hoedt from Lazio and this could pave the way for Virgil van Dijk to join either Chelsea or Liverpool.

After finding himself not being named in Lazio’s squad which played against Juventus in the Italian Super Cup and during the clubs Serie A encounter with Spal, Hoedt will hope to start playing regularly for the Saints.

The Dutch international van Dijk handed in a transfer request earlier in the summer and is refusing to play for the club as he tries to force through a move.

After a series of impressive performances last season, van Dijk has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League.

Though he is continuing to push for a move, the Saints keep insisting that they will not sell and have even said that they are prepared to sit him out for the season.

In the end, it is hard to see van Dijk not leaving considering the current situation. As a positive, Southampton will cash in heavily from a sale.
