Tottenham star reportedly channels Danny Rose in contract negotiations

Tottenham and star centre-back Toby Alderweireld are unable to reach an agreement regarding an improved contract, leading to a stall in negotiations, as per the Daily Mail.

The 28-year-old defender has 2 years left on his current deal, with an option of an additional 1 year.  However, he wants more than the £50,000-a-week wages he earns at the moment.

Only Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris earn more than £100,000 in weekly wages at Tottenham, and Danny Rose’s revealing interview last week is expected to spur a lot of the club’s top players into demanding for their rightful worth in pay package.

The Belgium international is one of the reasons Spurs defence tick, and he’s considered one of the best in the business of keeping the goals out.

While there is no urgent need to tie Alderweireld down, money-rich clubs like Manchester City will continue to keep tabs on him, and that puts his Tottenham future in huge doubts.

It’s believed negotiations will resume sooner or later, with both parties willing to reach a compromise, but the club could be sitting on a time bomb if a new improved deal isn’t wrapped up pronto.

Losing Alderweireld could potentially undo all manager Mauricio Pochettino has worked hard to build in the past 3 seasons.

Tottenham’s rigid pay system could end up being their undoing, as a lot of money is needed to keep players happy and motivated in modern day football.
