According to The Sun, Davison Sanchez’s likely Tottenham arrival could bring about defender Kevin Wimmer’s departure as the club shore up their defensive options.
Wimmer has been tipped for an exit all summer having failed to establish himself as a regular player in manager Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.
There is no shortage of options for the Austrian, though, with teams in the Premier League, Italy and Germany all interested in his services.
Southampton, West Ham, Crystal Palace and Stoke City have all been linked with the 24-year-old.
Only the latter 2 are more realistic next of stops for the centre-back, as his reported £20million price tag is keeping the foreign suitors from making a move.
The Saints haven’t tabled a concrete offer while West Ham want to play him out of position – at left-back.
On the other hand, Palace are hoping Wimmer can fill the hole the exit of former Liverpool loanee Mamadou Sakho created, and Stoke are hoping to boost their defence line in order to retain their topflight status.
From all indications, the former Köln man is nearing the end of his 2-season Spurs career, and given that Sanchez could complete a move this summer, he is indeed better off elsewhere than becoming surplus to requirements at the north London club.
