Southampton’s boss Mauricio Pellegrino has stated after a disappointing draw against Swansea City, that the fans are suffering the most when the biggest stars of the teams are ineligible for the matches.
He was referring to the status of the rebellious Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk.
TEAMtalk reports that the Saints manager has said that the people who buy tickets deserve to see the best players on the field.
He said, “But it’s a pity because the people deserve to see the best players in the pitch. It happens and we have to keep going.”
Officially Virgil van Dijk had missed the match because he caught a virus. Of course, we all know that the situation with the 26-year-old centre-back is more complex, and that he is currently unhappy at St. Mary’s because the club is not willing to grant his move to, Liverpool.
Both Saints management and the fans are in a very unpleasant position regarding the status of van Dijk.
