Tottenham are finally about to complete their first signing of the summer, with Southampton’s goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga lined up to come serve as understudy and backup to undisputed first-choice Hugo Lloris, the Daily Mail reports.
It has taken what seems like forever for Spurs to edge closer to starting business on incoming transfers, but this particular one looks ready to be officially sealed any moment from now.
Gazzaniga, 25, worked with manager Mauricio Pochettino during his brief stint at the South Coast club, and obviously made a long-lasting impression on the Spurs boss.
Also an Argentine, the former Gillingham shotstopper spent his formative years at Valencia before moving to England, but he was back in Spain last term on a season-long loan with Segunda Division side Rayo Vallecano.
Gazzaniga has 21 Premier League appearances under his belt for Southampton, and once signed, he will now hope to learn the ropes from Lloris as he readies himself for action whenever he’s called upon.
Probably not the first signing fans would have wanted, but an important one in the grand scheme of things as Tottenham continue to bid their time in the market in order to get their transfer business spot on this time around.
