On the surface, it appears Tottenham aren’t pulling enough strings to make a first signing this summer.

However, if reports from Greek publication SDNA are anything to go by, Spurs could be close to securing a player at last.

As per the source, the north London club sent scouts to watch Olympiakos first-team centre-back Panagiotis Retsos, 19, in last Wednesday’s Champions League qualifier against Partizan Belgrade.

While he is hardly a name found on the ever-spinning rumour mill, the £13.5million-rated teenager is actually attracting attention, with Bayer Leverkusen and Lyon closely keeping tabs on him.

Retsos is contracted to Olympiakos until 2023, but looks ready to move on to a bigger side very soon.

The Greek prodigy isn’t only able to play at either centre-back positions, he can also play at left and right-back, and Arsenal have regularly scouted him too.

Retsos’ talents, extraordinary stamina and leadership qualities (he captained Olympiacos against Atromitos in a Greek Cup game in February) have also attracted Juventus, as well as Borussia Monchengladbach.

His versatility means he can be the utility defender Spurs don’t have, and they are likely to watch him again against HNK Rijeka in the third qualifying round of the Champions League before making a final decision.
