As per the Daily Mail, Tottenham are being forced into considering a right-back signing following Kieran Trippier’s injury scare.
As a result, Valencia’s defender Joao Cancelo is back on Spurs’ radar, but they have a major hurdle to scale in getting the signature of the 23-year-old with Juventus also keen on him.
Reportedly, the Serie A perennial champions are willing to pay £25million for the Portugal international as they see him as a perfect replacement for Dani Alves.
Tottenham sent scouts to watch Cancelo at the Under-21 European Championships in Poland in June, and are convinced he would be able to put on impressive displays for them if signed.
The one-time Barcelona target has expressed his eagerness to leave Valencia this summer, and he is definitely capable of providing both competition and cover for Trippier.
Cancelo is a complete utility player on the right flank, as he’s also able to play in midfield, as a wing-back, an attacking midfielder and a wide forward.
With Spurs concerned over having to start the season with Kyle Walker-Peters, 20, as their only recognized right-back, Cancelo could emerge as their first signing of the summer transfer window.
