Birmingham vs Crawley Town EFL Cup– Match Preview August 8, 2017

EFL Cup Match Preview

This Tuesday, August 8, 2017 (11:45 AM Pacific) Birmingham City will host Crawley Town at St Andrew’s for a game in the first round of the EFL Cup. There is an evident gap in talent between the two teams but the match should still be an exciting match, especially with the atmosphere that St Andrew’s can create.

Birmingham City is currently in an exciting transitional phase under the experienced manager Harry Redknapp. The Blues have kept some key players like Clayton Donaldson and David Cotterill but have also made some important signings like the goalkeeper David Stockdale and the midfielder Cheikh N’Doye.

The signing of N’Doye from Ligue 1 side Angers came as a shock as the Senegalese player was expected to be picked up by a top tier club. Birmingham had a rough 16-17 season but may be a surprising team in this upcoming season under Harry Redknapp.

Crawley Town had a lackluster 16-17 season, finishing 19th in the English League Two and is expected to have a similar campaign in the upcoming season. The club does have a young and exciting manager at the helm in former Leeds United and Liverpool player Harry Kewell.

This will be the Australian’s first major managing job and it will be intriguing to see how the Aussie does in the League Two and in this EFL Cup. Birmingham is the clear favorite with the experience of Harry Redknapp but the Harry across the bench, Harry Kewell may spoil the party at St Andrew’s.
