West Ham United have received a boost in their hopes to lure Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho after it has emerged that Leicester City, who were quoted as being 4/9 favorites to sign the Nigerian, have apparently turned their attention onto signing Watford hitman Troy Deeney.
Foxes boss Craig Shakespeare apparently launched a £20 million bid to purchase Deeney and though that was reportedly rejected, he may go back with an improved offer.
This is likely to come as good news to Slaven Bilic’s side as it will mean less competition in the race to sign the Nigerian striker. Iheanacho fell down the pecking order at City last season below Sergio Aguero and young Brazilian Gabriel Jesus.
At this stage, a move away from the Etihad Stadium will be best to allow him to play on a more regular basis. What could also help West Ham is the fact that they recently signed Pablo Zabaleta, who was reportedly a mentor to Iheanacho at City.
