West Ham handed huge fitness boost ahead of Chelsea clash

West Ham United will be banking on Andy Carroll to remain fit for the rest of the season after the striker returned to training on Wednesday.

Hammers boss Slaven Bilic had hoped to see the injury prone forward return on Tuesday, however after an assessment by the clubs medical team, it was decided that he would only return on Wednesday.

With key man Michail Antonio ruled out for the Hammers’ match against London rivals Chelsea at the London Stadium on Monday, the club will be keener for Carroll to be available.

The forward had been unable to play for close to a month following his latest groin injury which was sustained on February 4 against Southampton.

The club will assess Carroll’s performances over the next five days before making a decision on whether he will play. The striker has shown signs of brilliance this season when he was fit, netting six goals from nine starts.
