We are just three days away from Saints’ first cup final in over a decade. And they will be looking to secure their first trophy in over 40 years. Here’s a look at the men who could become Saints legends come Sunday.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Goalkeeper
Fraser Forster – the big man has been brilliant, and there’s no reason to change him out now.
Defenders
Cedric Soares, Maya Yoshida, Jack Stephens, Ryan Bertrand – there’s also little reason to change the back line. Despite the signing of Martin Caceres, he’s not as used to the side as Stephens is. And young Stephens did ever so well to help in the clean sheet victory over Liverpool.
Defensive Midfielders
Oriol Romeu, Steven Davis – This midfield tandem has been their best this season, and there’s little need to change it now. Romeu has been superb this season sitting in front of the defence. That’s part of the reason they’ve yet to concede in this competition.
Attacking Midfielders
Jay Rodriguez, Dusan Tadic, Nathan Redmond – Rodriguez can now be deployed out wide, and he and Redmond represent two very good threats from out wide. Tadic has really blossomed in a free “#10” role. Look for that to continue to be how he operates.
Striker
Manolo Gabbiadini – The Italian has instantly become a fan favorite. He’s got three goals in just two matches now, and he’d be a club legend with a winner here. He’s a very sneaky player that makes great runs.
