Italian star piles on the misery of hapless Sunderland

Stadium of Light

Manolo Gabbiadini, playing only his second game for Southampton, struck a brace to lead his team to a 4-0 victory over struggling Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

Gabbiadini, who arrived from Napoli last month, netted the first goal of the game under controversial circumstances as he used his arm to help the ball in during the 30th minute.

He then doubled the lead for the visitors just before half time with a goal that left Black Cats goalkeeper Vito Mannone with no chance.

Jason Denayer scored an own goal in the 89th minute before Shane Long completed the rout in stoppage time to secure a morale boosting win for Southampton, which is their first away win since December.

The loss for Sunderland sees them rooted to the bottom of the table and two points adrift of safety. The Black Cats were dominated throughout the game and the score was a fair outcome for this match.
