Defender urges Sunderland to build on their fine run

Stadium of Light

Jason Denayer who is playing for Sunderland on loan from Manchester City, believes that the side must build on their 4-0 thrashing ahead of their match against Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

Denayer said, “Crystal Palace was an important win, we need to keep working hard and doing our best. Last week it paid off, we need to come with the same mentality.

“Clean sheets are always important because then you never lose, that is the first thing we look for and us defenders will try our best to do it.”

Prior to the win against Palace, David Moyes’ men had claimed an impressive draw against high-flying Tottenham Hotspur. Sunderland remain in the relegation zone and in last place in the Premiership table.

However the last two League matches would certainly have inspired a sense of hope within the team that they can once more avoid relegation.

After the game against Southampton, Sunderland will enjoy a two week break from action as they are already out of the FA Cup. This will certainly give the Black Cats ample rest before continuing the relegation dogfight.
