Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has rubbished reports linking Erik Lamela with a move back to his native Argentina after claiming that himself and the player “joke about River Place rumors”.
The winger began his career with River and reports have emerged in recent weeks linking the player with a move back to Argentina after becoming homesick and having not played since October due to a serious hip injury.
Though Pochettino has previously appeared to question Lamela’s, who signed for Tottenham a couple of seasons ago for around £30 million, attitude toward his recovery process, but he now seems to indicate that the player is not interested in leaving the club for the time being.
“We were joking that there were some rumours about him going back to River,” said the Spurs manager.
“I asked him if he wanted to go back and he said, ‘I want to play here, I want to play in Tottenham, I want to play for this club, I want to be in England and I want to play football’.”
Lamela is certainly talented and if he works hard, he should be able to regain a place in the Tottenham Hotspur starting lineup.
