Rafa Benitez is frustrated over Newcastle’s lack of transfer activity. After a disappointing 2-2 draw against QPR, Newcastle missed the opportunity to go to the top of the Championship. It was a match they clearly should have won, after Ciaran Clark’s late own goal proved to be the equalizer for QPR. Yoan Gouffran and Ayoze Perez were also guilty of missing fantastic opportunities.
Though Rafa Benitez had hoped to make new signings during the January transfer window, no signings were made, which means that he will have to make do with whatever options he has to try and lure Newcastle back to the Premier League.
Benitez said, “I’m disappointed (not to have signed anyone) but I have to concentrate on the players we have.”
Though there is probably enough talent in the Newcastle squad to at least gain promotion to the Premier League, a few new signings would have added fresh energy to the team and definitely have helped their chances of toppling Brighton as Championship leaders.
